Part of the reason I haven’t been able to post much is because of all the problems occupying my life lately.
First there was the apartment. I hired a realtor to get me an apartment in august. He got one. I put a deposit on it. The night before I was going to sign the lease he called me to tell me he lost the apartment, the owner didn’t want us, and then without talking to us left for vacation upstate. I lived at Amanda’s house for a week or two with Mike, my roommate, until I found another place (aka I was homeless!).
My bike was stolen while it was locked up outside Amanda’s house for an hour.
Verizon strung me along for 6 full weeks saying they would get me internet and then on about the 10th call to their customer support line asking where the hell my internet was they just decided they needed to make me wait another 6 weeks and told me flat out this time. I cancelled and called Cablevision instead of waiting.
Cablevision needed for me to prove I was the current resident of my apartment, because the last guy who lived here didn’t pay his bills. They wanted a copy of the lease which my parents mistakenly took home with them after we signed it. Much hilarity ensued.
ConEd overcharged me on my first bill. They couldn’t get in to read the meter (because I don’t have a doorbell, which is a whole nother story) so they just guessed what it was currently and used the last resident’s end meter position as my start. I would be OK with that normally, because they simply correct it on the next bill, however no one lived in the apartment for a long time before I moved in. I shouldn’t be forced to pay that. Yet they are forcing me to pay that.
KeySpan shut off my gas, and when I called to get it turned back on, they couldn’t get into the building because there’s no doorbell so how is anyone supposed to know they’re here? So my gas is still shut off. No hot water, no stove.
I ordered furniture from Ikea over the phone to save myself the trouble of taking the hike back to Long Island and borrowing the car and all that and they fucked up the delivery of it. It was delivered to my billing address… my parents house. And it was delivered in terrible condition. So the $40-60 I spent to get the items I needed shipped was for nothing because I had to go home to get it anyway.
And my grand project, my HDTV Receiver STILL doesn’t work. I cannot figure out, for the life of me, how to tune an HDTV antenna. I tried Gentoo and KnoppMyth on my little mini pc and neither worked. Windows is both not an option and will not work so don’t even point that out.
I can’t remember if I’m missing something. I’m sure I am, probably something with Poly giving me the shaft again. They overbilled me a few ten thousand dollars, but that’s hardly worth mentioning because it happens every semester.
Regular updates filled with the nifty things I discover will be back on track shortly… just gotta get hot water in the shower back and then maybe I can settle down.
